KATE FLATT​ OBE

Mother of two. Choreographer and Movement Director.

Lucy had the honour of talking to one of Britain's most celebrated choreographers and movement directors, Kate Flatt OBE, about her experiences as a mother and prolific British artist, well-known for her legendary contribution to the original West End production of Les Miserables. This she created whilst her daughter was 5 years old and her son was a baby!

Kate's inspiring journey of working on multiple productions all over the world is an exceptional example of the intricacies required when navigating a family with an incredibly successful artistic career. 

 

Kate has worked across a variety of art forms including opera, ballet, musical theatre, theatre and dance. Her work includes Three Sisters, Dream Play, Albert Speer (NT); Dr Faustus, T’is Pity She’s a Whore (Young Vic); Hamlet (Old Vic), Kreutzer Sonata (The Gate); Fiddler on the Roof, the original Les Miserables (West End). 


Dance theatre includes Undivided Loves (Phoenix Dance), The Dancing Room (BBC2), Soul Play, Ballroom of Joys and Sorrows, Oss and Ox, Step Ladder and a Goat, The Weathermen (WPT).Opera includes Turandot, Aida, (ROH); Gloriana, Peter Grimes (Opera North) The Carmelites, Verdi’s Requiem (ENO). 

 

Kate is a Rayne Foundation and Churchill Fellow. She was awarded an OBE in 2020.
